人類距離親身探測火星，又再邁進一步！國際太空站（ISS）的太空人首度成功在太空種植生菜品嘗，這代表日後進行長期太空任務時，太空人能夠自行生產食糧。

美國太空總署（NASA）發表聲明，指今次是NASA太空人破天荒第一次在微重力環境下種植出能夠即時食用的新鮮食物。美國太空人Scott Kelly和Kjell Lindgren在美國東岸時間上午11時15分至12時，品嘗他們種植的紅蘿蔓生菜，他們還加點橄欖油，令蔬菜更加味美。

不過，他們並沒有吃掉所有的生菜，其餘一半將被冷藏，再送回地進行安全化驗。

專定表示今次的壯舉為人類踏入火星跨下重要一步：「前往火星的路途上，以及折返期間，我們沒有辦法再次得到糧食補給，我們必須要自給自足，要建立一座可持續運行的太空艙。」

專家亦認為能夠在太空艙種植食糧，不但在身理上，心理上亦對太空人有幫助：「透過種植紅蘿蔓生菜、蕃茄、藍莓等能抗衰老的新解食材，對太空人執行任務的心情有正面影響，更可保護他們免受外太空輻射的傷害。」
