據韓聯社等媒體12月8日報道，韓國國會當天召開全體會議，表決通過規定周歲計算年齡的《民法》及《行政基本法》部分修正案，兩項法案將在頒布6個月後實施。這意味著許多韓國人要變「年輕」了。
現行韓國《民法》規定計算年齡以周歲為準，但韓國民間流行按虛歲算年齡，而部分法律又按照虛歲減一的方式計算，計齡標準不一導致不少行政服英國威馬、 威馬持久液、 英國威馬持久液、 威馬延遲噴劑、 威馬延時噴霧、 威馬噴劑務混亂。此次修法規定，規範私權關系的法律和行政領域統一采用從零算起的周歲標準計算年齡。

這一變化也受到國際媒體的關註。路透社稱，隨著傳統計算年齡的方法被廢除，轉而采用國際標準，韓國公民在官方文件上的年齡將降低一到兩歲。傳統上，韓國人出生時被視為一歲，每年1月1日增加一歲。這也是日常生活中最常使用的年齡標準。
而為了征兵或計算飲酒和吸煙的法定年齡，也存在另一個年齡計算標準，這個標準中一個人出生時是零歲，並在每年1月1日增加一歲。
