宏達電董事長王雪紅鎖定虛擬實境（VR），耕耘超過6年，已在國內站穩一方之霸，如今搭上元宇宙熱話題，卻驚傳有意出售VR事業部門，宏達電強調：「針對市場臆測不予評論。」
面對市場傳聞，宏達電重申持續拓展元宇宙生態系，合作夥伴已遍及電信商、藝術、教育和娛樂等領域，強調全新一代的VR產品正緊鑼密鼓進行，預計在2023年上半年正式發表。
王雪紅於1997年成立宏達電，2008年推出全球首款搭載Android系統的智慧型手機，2011年股價衝上1,300元，坐上股王寶座，當年市值超過1兆元。但2013年首度出現虧損，2017年切割ODM部門賣給Google。
2016年王雪紅率領宏達電轉型，搶先鎖定被譽為元宇宙入口的VR技術，打造軟硬體生態圈，2021年底推出第一款輕量級189公克的VR眼鏡，重量大勝勁敵臉書VR頭盔，激勵外資由賣轉買，新品發布會後6天內股價飆漲超過5成。
縱使元宇宙話題持續火熱，但根據TrendForce預估，今年不敵高通膨衝擊市場，加上廠商延後推出新品，導致2022年全球VR裝置出貨銳減5.3％，仍看好明年出貨力道回升，預估2023年VR裝置全球出貨量挑戰千萬台、年增超過2成。
